St. Petersburg, FL (March 7, 2006) — Florida International Museum (FIM) is offering Open Bible Day with David L. Brown, Ph.D. on Saturday, March 18th at 9:00 AM.  Dr. Brown holds a Masters degree in Theology and a Ph.D. in History, specializing in the history of the English Bible.  “This is a wonderful opportunity for people to bring in their bibles and have an expert give them background on their family treasure,” said Kathy Oathout, FIM executive director.  To afford patrons the opportunity of a private consultation, appointments are required.  Appointments with Dr. Brown are available by calling Eileen Conte at 727.341.7901.

Dr. Brown serves as a consultant to museums, colleges, universities, and seminars with biblical manuscript collections. A world traveler, Dr. Brown as built key relationships with international biblical scholars, conducted seminars on the origins of the English Bible and has spoken on the Bible’s unique history on many broadcast outlets. Dr. Brown where possible will provide identification information as well as historical information about your family Bible. No financial evaluations will be given and only one Bible per family, please.

On the 18th, patrons can also meet nationally known accredited curator and illuminated manuscript specialist Ron McCarty of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and learn how these treasures were made and decorated.  Also, meet English Bookbinder John Ravenhill, who will discuss Bible repair and restoration (no appointment necessary).
