Scientists who are also people of faith walk a fine dogmatic
line, having to reconcile the skepticism needed for an intellectually honest
pursuit of fact with beliefs based on the ineffable and unquantifiable.

Dr. William H. Noah plants his feet on both sides of that
line.

Noah, 44, is a devout Christian who spent most of his life,
he says, studying science. He founded the
Middle
Tennessee
Center
for Lung Disease
and is a specialist in sleep disorders.

But when he turned 32, he says, “I realized I had two
medical degrees and knew nothing else.”

At that point he was married with two daughters and another
on the way. He and his family started traveling, “going to museums all
over the world and then ancient archaeological sites. It was archaeology that
got me interested in the history of the Bible.”
