{"id":230,"date":"2007-02-15T20:19:13","date_gmt":"2007-02-15T20:19:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/navertise.net\/inkandblood\/?p=230"},"modified":"2016-10-18T18:11:33","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T18:11:33","slug":"museum-of-idaho-opens-ink-blood-exhibit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inkandblood.com\/index.php\/2007\/02\/15\/museum-of-idaho-opens-ink-blood-exhibit\/","title":{"rendered":"Museum of Idaho Opens Ink &#038; Blood Exhibit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<st1:place w:st=\"on\"><br \/>\n<st1:city w:st=\"on\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">IDAHO FALLS<\/span><\/st1:city><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">,<br \/>\n<st1:state w:st=\"on\">IDAHO<\/st1:state><\/span><\/st1:place><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> \u2013 February 15, 2007 \u2013 On February 16 the museum opens<br \/>\nits major 2007 exhibit, \u201cInk &amp; Blood: Dead Sea Scrolls to the King James<br \/>\nBible,\u201d presented by the Post Register.<span>&nbsp;<\/span>The opening of Ink &amp; Blood marks the first time ever for actual Dead<br \/>\nSea Scrolls fragments to be put on display in the Intermountain West.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The exhibit contains over 100 actual<br \/>\nartifacts and some of the most exciting archaeological discoveries ever made,<br \/>\nchronicling the preservation and subsequent translations of the most read book<br \/>\nof all time \u2013 The Bible.<br \/>\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Ink &amp; Blood contains at<br \/>\nleast one artifact that is 5,000 years old; and ancient Babylonian clay tablet,<br \/>\nand Dead Sea Scroll fragments that are at least 2,000 years old.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The exhibit also contains a replica of the<br \/>\nGutenberg Printing Press, the invention that is credited with launching several<br \/>\nsocial changes, including the Renaissance of arts and culture, the Reformation,<br \/>\nand the birth of modern science.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And it<br \/>\ncontains many original Bibles centuries old.<span>&nbsp;<\/span>\u201cIt\u2019s a once in a lifetime experience to come see the untold history of<br \/>\nthe Hebrew Bible, the Greek Bible, the Latin Bible, the translations into many<br \/>\nother languages including English, the history of writing, the birth of modern<br \/>\nprinting, and the roles that these events played in the history of the world\u201d<br \/>\nsaid Dr. David Pennock, museum executive director.<br \/>\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u201cIt truly is an amazing<br \/>\nstory, and it\u2019s one that really hasn\u2019t ever been told\u201d said Dr. William Noah,<br \/>\nfounder and curator of Ink &amp; Blood.<span>&nbsp;<\/span>This exhibit brings together ancient historical writings, scrolls and<br \/>\nmanuscripts, the invention of the printing press, the impact that inexpensive<br \/>\nmass produced books and manuscripts have had on world culture, and the birth of<br \/>\nthe modern English Bible.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>These things<br \/>\nled to an explosion of interest in the arts, science and religion.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The common person could now read and<br \/>\nparticipate in the great debates and discussions of their times.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><br \/>\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u201cNow is our chance, probably<br \/>\nthe only chance most of us will ever have, to see actual Dead Sea Scroll<br \/>\nfragments, Babylonian tablets, and 100\u2019s of ancient Bibles and artifacts in a<br \/>\ncomprehensive and truly historic exhibit,\u201d said Nick Gailey, museum programs<br \/>\ndirector.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Mr. Gailey has been working on<br \/>\nbringing this exhibit to<br \/>\n<st1:city w:st=\"on\"><br \/>\n<st1:place w:st=\"on\">Idaho Falls<\/st1:place><\/st1:city><br \/>\nfor over a year now, and he is clearly very excited to see the exhibit finally<br \/>\nopen to the public tomorrow.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He is not<br \/>\nthe only one.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Over 175 members of the<br \/>\nclergy from<br \/>\n<st1:state w:st=\"on\">Idaho<\/st1:state>,<br \/>\n<st1:state w:st=\"on\">Wyoming<\/st1:state><br \/>\nand<br \/>\n<st1:state w:st=\"on\"><br \/>\n<st1:place w:st=\"on\">Utah<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> are<br \/>\ncoming today for a preview of the exhibit. The buzz is palpable.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>No matter what your faith, there is something<br \/>\ncompelling about this exhibit.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And for<br \/>\nthose that are only interested in history, what can be more fascinating than<br \/>\nthe history of writing and the invention of the printing press?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The impact it has had on society, and the<br \/>\nresulting speed of technological and social advancement, has been truly<br \/>\nastounding.<br \/>\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">And here it is in<br \/>\n<st1:city w:st=\"on\">Idaho Falls<\/st1:city>, one of only four venues it has ever been<br \/>\nexhibited in, and the only venue west of the<br \/>\n<st1:state w:st=\"on\"><br \/>\n<st1:place w:st=\"on\">Mississippi<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<span>&nbsp;<\/span>We are very fortunate to have it.<span>&nbsp;<\/span>The exhibit runs from February 16 through May 28th.<span>&nbsp;
